Bosch Rexroth Canada and partner Advanced Motion & Controls are giving Canadian manufacturers a sneak peek at new technology designed to improve safety and lean productivity at the 2010 Machine Automation Safety Congress from May 3-4, 2010.

Attendees at the 2010 Machine Automation Safety Congress (MASC) will have an unprecedented chance learn how to improve their safety records and achieve lean productivity goals at the same time, thanks to Bosch Rexroth Canada and its partner, Advanced Motion & Controls.

The partnership is a highlight of this year’s MASC event, a special pavilion within the Industrial Accident Prevention Association’s (IAPA) Health and Safety Canada tradeshow, which runs from May 3-4, 2010 at the International Centre in Mississauga.

The MASC event features leading suppliers in the area of machine safety and machine guarding for Canada’s automation industry. A premiere exhibitor at MASC since its first year, Bosch Rexroth has paired up with Advanced Motion & Controls, a major Canadian distributor of factory automation products, to showcase new technology and solutions that will provide improved safety, including Bosch Rexroth’s world-renowned aluminum framing system for safety solutions, workplace ergonomics and lean systems.

The partnership with Advanced Motion allows Bosch Rexroth to showcase these new products and answer questions from manufacturers who need access to this critical information. As proud supporters of MASC, Bosch Rexroth and Advanced Motion’s participation in the event demonstrates a strong commitment to the machine safety and automation market in Canada.

The MASC pavilion also gives manufacturers the chance to meet one-on-one with representatives from both Bosch Rexroth Canada and Advanced Motion & Controls to discuss their individual safety requirements and lean productivity goals, a bonus for Canadian manufacturers who are faced with both an uncertain economy and ever-tightening safety requirements.

Aluminum framing systems offer both safety and productivity
A highlight of Bosch Rexroth Canada’s booth at MASC is the company’s world-renowned aluminum framing systems designed to improve safety and ergonomics at the same time as boosting lean productivity.

Safety initiatives often get a bad rap from manufacturers who worry that investing in safety will mean increased costs and decreased productivity. By visiting Bosch Rexroth and Advanced Motion & Control’s booth at the show, MASC attendees will be able to see first-hand how a commitment to safety doesn’t have to squeeze the bottom line.

Bosch Rexroth’s aluminum framing systems offer a wide range of machine and perimeter guarding options for creating physical enclosures, guards, and barriers to protect workers. The panels assemble and install easily from standard components. Partitions can be constructed of wire mesh screens, protective panes or panels, and then mounted directly into T-slot profiles that have already been integrated into a system.

The guarding systems give manufacturers more flexibility and versatility than any other perimeter guarding/enclosure system available. With pre-assembled, ready-to-use components, it’s easy to plan, quick to install and integrates easily with other structures made from Rexroth aluminum framing, such as conveyors, ergonomic workstations and custom machinery. The clean lines and anodized aluminum surface provide an attractive, modern appearance, while at the same time keeping plants safe and secure.

But safety doesn’t stop there. Rexroth’s aluminum framing systems also reduce ergonomic injuries because manufacturers can engineer workstations, material shuttles and flow racks that reduce hand and arm movements, promote correct body posture and reduce physical stress points. Work surfaces and footrests are adjustable to fit varying frame sizes. Parts bins and trays are specially designed to minimize hand motions and speed piecepart changeover. These seemingly small design differences contribute to decreases in worker’s compensation claims, absenteeism and turnover.

To top it all off, the systems also allow manufacturers to achieve lean principles. The systems’ easy-to-use design allows customers to quickly create new solutions or optimize and extend old ones, improving existing assembly lines through the application of kaizen or poka-yoke principles in a lean manufacturing setting.

Bosch Rexroth Canada’s partnership with Advanced Motion & Controls also gives manufacturers access to Advanced Motion’s wealth of experience. Using Bosch Rexroth’s systems, Advanced Motion & Controls can create applications that can be extended beyond simple frames and bases to complete, multi-functional structures. The company also offers a team of experienced assemblers to arrive with a fully equipped field service unit and install the application right on the plant floor.

New EcoShape system boosts safety in lean manufacturing environments
MASC attendees will be among the first in Canada to get a look at the latest addition to Bosch Rexroth’s aluminum framing systems, the EcoShape tubular framing system. The EcoShape system, used in combination with other components from Rexroth’s Manual Production Systems (MPS), makes it easy for manufacturers to construct machine guarding structures, custom ergonomic workstations, material shuttles and flow racks.

EcoShape is based on reusable and recyclable anodized aluminum profiles and also includes caps and connection elements. Special adapters from Rexroth’s modular aluminum framing system are also available for the aluminum profiles, for applications requiring high load-bearing capacities.

With Rexroth’s connection technology that compensates for minor length differences, workers can easily cut and set up the aluminum tubes on site. These intuitive connection elements are bolted together for easy re-use or reconfiguration, while ensuring securely-fastened, high-performance structures. EcoShape also makes it easy to connect square and round elements, and these cost-effective solutions round out Rexroth’s extensive aluminum framing system. The EcoShape system will be on display for the entire MASC event.
