Free Bosch Rexroth Canada seminar provides details on cost-effective uses of latest manufacturing technology to reduce safety risks, improve compliance, and boost machine precision and profitability

(Burlington, ON – Canada – www.boschrexroth.ca) Plastics manufacturers can significantly improve the performance and long-term value of their manufacturing platform, and ensure full compliance with key Canadian and European safety standards through targeted, cost-effective upgrades to existing plastic manufacturing machines. The Plastics Machine Drive and Control free seminar from Bosch Rexroth Canada offers practical advice and process-specific recommendations for using today’s drive and control technology to upgrade existing plastics machines, extending machine life and laying the foundation for a more profitable future.

“Many plastics manufacturers have machines that are 10-20 years old, and while still productive, were installed before the latest generation of variable speed pumps and precise controls became common,” said Glen Early, Technical Consultant, Bosch Rexroth Canada Hydraulics Business Unit and one of the seminar presenters. “We feel that these upgrades, in these difficult economic times, can dramatically improve the efficiency of these machines, so they operate as profitably as possible.”

In addition to machine optimization, the seminar will also review the latest developments in Canadian and European machine safety standards, and offer practical guidance on how simple retrofits can protect manufacturers and ensure a safer working environment.

“We want to make people aware of what these safety standards are, and what type of relatively cost-effective retrofits can be made to help prevent much more expensive, and possibly catastrophic events,” said seminar presenter Sophia Zaikos, Forming Machinery Group Leader, Bosch Rexroth Canada, Hydraulic Business Unit.

Seminar participants will gain insight into key engineering and design principles for planning machine upgrades and retrofits. They will learn the latest techniques for applying world-class metrics to guide machine retrofits, and participate in hands-on demonstrations of enhanced controls and automation technologies designed to serve the specific needs of plastic manufacturers.

To provide a complete perspective on the machine upgrade process, the Bosch Rexroth presenters will be joined by Payman Kianpour, of systems integrator Kepstrum Inc (www.kepstrum.com). He will provide details on best practices to pursue when manufacturers are upgrading machines for performance or safety requirements, including use of analysis tools to establish “before/after” performance benchmarks and identify the right kinds of technologies to apply.

The seminar will examine some of the most common areas where plastics machine productivity can be improved. “How fast, accurate and precise is the machine running? Is there good enough control on the clamp, or are 2-3% of the parts flashing and have to be rejected? How accurate is the injection shot repeatability – and can it be improved?” Early said. “These are some of the issues we’re going to look at in detail, and offer some retrofit solutions that a lot of manufacturers can benefit from.”

The Plastics Machine Drive and Control seminar features classroom-style instruction, and will include a case history example and a demonstration that will show a plastics machine that has been upgraded with new controls and variable speed drives, for a real-world “before/after” example of machine upgrades. The seminar will take place between 8:45 AM and 3:00 PM on Thursday May 13, 2010 in Burlington, ON, and is designed for production managers, machine maintenance supervisors, plant engineers, and others responsible for ensuring manufacturing performance, operator safety, and line productivity.
